Did a little fishing off shore today. Got to the water at 7:20, picked up 3 bass around 2lb 2.5lb 1.5lb on the jerkbait and had one get off in about a hour and 20 min. then i went home, had some breakfast and went to another lake off shore from about 9:30-10:30
When i showed up i see the whole west shoreline and most of the south end is covered with skim ice, but luckily i was planning to fish the east shoreline anyway and it was thawed, I'm guessing because of the west winds we've had the past couple days. a few casts in with the jerkbait i get a nice hit right on the drop that goes from about 6ft-12ft and got one of the fattest bass i've ever caught (pic does the fish no justice) he was 18.5''. he actually fought really hard much to my surprise for the water being so cold.
I fished that area for about an hour and picked up one fat 12'' smallie. The snow started coming down really hard so i called it a day. 5 bass between the two spots in about 2.5 hours with water temps somewhere in the 30's i'm guessing, It was a good day on the water and there was hardly any wind at all which made the cold temps tolerable.
