Went out with a few friends today from 6AM - 4PM.
They were using shiners. They caught a bunch of 12"-14" bass.
I was using red senkos, black senkos, a swimbait, and a cheap salamander softbait that I picked up.
The day started off very frustrating for me. I kept getting hits and the fish kept spitting the bait out before I could set. A few times, I set, and the fish managed to snap my line. I finally hooked a tiny bass that was about 6 inches long. I refuse to use live bait, unless it's really early on in the season because it's just boring for me, but I have to admit, it was frustrating to see my buddies pulling them in with such ease, as little as they were... It seemed just about every time they got hit, they would just reel in without even setting, and have one. Oh, one of them also caught a white sucker on a shiner, which was odd. I have never seen one in person before. It was about 14 inches.
Went another few hours before I got another bite. This time, yet again, it snapped my line. My friend threw a shiner into the spot where we saw the flash of silver scales when I set my hook, and a second later, he had a 15" bass. We looked inside, and sure enough, my hook and line were in there, the swimbait was nowhere to be found. GREAT!
At around 4, we parted ways because my friends are not real fishermen (haha!). See next trip.
