Horn Pond

My brother and I went to Horn Pond yesterday for the first time. I'm up on vacation and was looking to do some fishing before I left. I read that Horn Pond is surrounded by a walking trail and that basically the entire shoreline is open for fishing. This was a huge plus because we weren't able to take out the canoe.

We didn't start fishing until almost 8 o'clock. I was impressed with the size of the pond and the scenery since it is in the middle of a city. The place was very busy with joggers and people walking there dogs. There were only a few other people fishing.

I started off throwing a buzzbait with no luck. My brother missed a fish on a wacky rigged senko. After that I tried a crankbait with no luck, finally switching over to soft plastics for the rest of the day. MY brother got a few bites on a topwaters hollow frog but regretfully didn't land any. I ended up landing 5 or 6 bass combined from Horn Pond, and that little pond behind it, not sure if that's still considered part of Horn. The biggest bass was about 2.5-3. A nice solid wide fish that pulled hard. All the bass pulled surprisingly hard come to think about it, even this little 8 and 9 inch half pounders.

We saw some huge blow ups in both ponds. I was skeptical because I read a few bad reviews on this site, but turns out fishing is very good there. I would definitely go back there again and try to make it all the way around bother ponds. By the time we got there, we fished for about two hours until it got really hot and humid. BY the time we left it was about 90 and I was sweating through my shirt.

All in all, I had a good trip to Horn Pond. I would like to venture back there earlier or later in the year when the weather is a little cooler; that is if I want to fight the crowds of powerbaiters fishing for stockies.

  • 5 or 6 bass in the hot sun!, nice job. A good start to your morning.

  • The heat was brutal once the sun got up. We started off fishing the Alribgton Street side under all the trees, but as the day went on we walked the shoreline and there was no escaping the sun.

I would have liked to be there at sunrise, but I also didn't want to get up at 4am. My brother just needs some practice on setting the hook. The only time he ever goes fishing is with me, and this was the first time this year because I moved.

  • In this heat you got to get out early, or at least find the shaded areas.
Tell your brother to sharpen his hooks...
